Hot Isostatic Pressing Technical Considerations

Turbo WheelsThe application of the hot isostatic pressing process allows cast, MIM (metal injection molded) and additively manufactured materials to achieve superior mechanical properties such as fatigue life, ductility, and impact toughness by elimination of internal porosity. In addition, it has proven that many different materials can achieve superior quality characteristics when fabricated from densified powders versus other fabrication methods such as forging. A wide variety of materials must be hot isostatically pressed because there are no other comparable cost-effective forming processes available today. Additionally, the hot isostatic pressing of powders allows compositions and blends impossible to achieve by other manufacturing means.
